MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Detroit Tigers have avoided a three-game
sweep at Minnesota with a 10-9 victory behind Gerald Laird's solo
home run in the 13th inning. Danny Valencia had three hits and two
RBIs for the Twins, who are three-and-a-half games ahead of the
Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was
ejected from the game against Detroit after arguing a close play at
second base. He came out to argue after crew chief Joe West ruled
that Alexi Casilla dropped the ball and called Austin Jackson safe
at second.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings have wrapped up the
preseason by beating Denver 31-24 at home. Broncos rookie Tim Tebow
outplayed Minnesota's Tarvaris Jackson in the backup quarterback
comparison, but the Vikings forced four first-half turnovers and
got the victory.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - The Minnesota Gophers have opened the
season with a 24-17 win at Middle Tennessee. Duane Bennett rushed
for a career-high 187 yards, and fullback Jon Hoese scored three
touchdowns and recovered a fumble.
